More powertrain options are available with a choice of 3 engines: a 1.8 litre petrol, a 2.0 litre turbo diesel or the 1.4 litre intelligent Turbo induction (iTi) petrol engine. The Holden Cruze marries 4-cylinder fuel economy with the type of performance, ride and handling only a Holden can provide.
1.8L Petrol
The 1.8 litre DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder ECOTEC petrol engine is standard on CD and CDX models. This advanced petrol engine produces spirited performance from low revs to high.
1.4L iTi Turbo Petrol
The advanced 1.4 litre DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder iTi turbo petrol engine, takes sporty driving another step forward. This intelligent engine provides superior performance with an enviable fuel economy starting at just 6.4L/100km, and can take you up to 1000km on a single tank#. Available on CD and standard on SRi and SRi-V only.
2.0L Diesel
The 2.0L DOHC 16 valve 4-cylinder common rail turbo diesel engine is the most fuel-efficient car built in Australia≠. Optional on CD and CDX models, its improved performance as well as improved fuel economy offer a powerful, fuel-efficient diesel offering.

5 and 6-speed manual transmission
Complementing the 1.8L petrol engine is a smooth shifting 5-speed manual transmission, while to enhance the sporty characteristics of the diesel and 1.4L iTi powertrains, these have been mated to a sporty 6-speed manual transmission. Both these intelligent transmissions feature:
- A one-piece housing that enables a compact, light design.
- Needle bearings for all gears to ensure low-friction gear meshing for better shiftability.
- Enhanced low-gear engagement for smooth and easy launch and shift characteristics.
- Excellent noise, vibration and harshness characteristics.
6-speed automatic transmission
The smooth 6-speed transmission with active select maintains optimum engine economy across a wide range of driving conditions.
- All models feature a "tap-up/tap-down" active select feature allowing you to select and hold your gears in order to experience a more spirited drive.
- Clutch-to-clutch shift operation for added precision and smoother shifts between gears.
- A wide spread ratio. The first gear is a very high ratio which provides brisk acceleration. Sixth gear is an overdrive ratio which keeps the engine revolutions as low as possible for highway cruising and improved fuel economy.
